Phuket Property in Kata - Resorts, Apartments and Condos

Phuket Property in Kata

Phuket property in Kata is constrained to a narrow coastal strip surrounded by hills.

Kata Phuket from the Hilltop Hotel This gives just about every development in Kata great sea views.

However, since it's illegal to build on land above 80 meters in Phuket, Kata is quickly running out of space for property developments.

This means land is at a premium. As such, resorts dominate the coastal strip and apartments and townhouses dominate the hills because they take up less space than villas.

The result is a shortage of villas in Kata pro rata to its southerly neighbours Chalong, Rawai and Nai Harn.

The Heights, by Raimon Land PLC is a good example of getting the best from rough terrain and these, very up market, 18 million Baht apartments boast spectacular views, especially at sunset.

Karon Beach Real Estate have on their books one of the best villas ever seen.

A 5 bedroom, ultra luxury, show stopper, at only 234 million Baht!

They also have a few 3 bedroom townhouses at 14.5 million Baht for those with smaller cheque books.

If it's resorts your after, and most of them will sell you a time share or more, there are at least 11 in Kata.

Two that deserve a mention are the Alpina Phuket Nalina Resort and the Andaman Cannacia Resort.

Club Med is also in Kata.

For a more modest budget, try the Kata Heights Condominiums by the Watson Property Group.

Phuket Property in Kata - General

Although Phuket property in Kata beach is highly developed, it gets progressively quieter as you move south from Karon towards Kata and Kata Noi.

There is more shade from the ever present sun in the south of Kata, although in the high season the shade is the most popular part of the beach.

The southern tip of the Kata bay is also a favourite with wind surfers and surf boarders, and you can take advantage of the water entertainment from the 'Rasta' beach bar.

Since Club Med is just up the road, this section of the beach is Phuket's answer to a 'Muscle Beach', with a bit less muscle.

Another plus for Kata is that the main coast road south from Phuket by-passes Kata and Kata Noi.

This makes the area behind Kata beach safer for children as there is much less through-flow of traffic than in Patong and Karon for example.

Kata doesn't have the sand dunes of Karon, but the views are great, as are the shade and atmosphere.

Kings Cup Regatta Kata Phuket Kata is also host to the King's Cup Regatta. This is a 3 day sailing event when yachts from all over come to compete.

December the 5th, is the King's birthday, and Kata is the only place in Thailand where you can buy a drink on this holiday as it's an official celebration.

As a resident of Kata, you can take a short drive up the hill and watch the fabulous sunsets (as Phuket is only 8 deg. north of the eqautor, the sunset time varies only between 5.30pm and 6.30pm all year round) from the Rasta "After Beach" bar / restaurant or the Hilltop Hotel (see top photo).

The restaurant has one of the best view-points over Kata, so don't forget your camera and also take an appetite, their steamed crab is superb.

Along the sea front and approach road you will also find a wide range of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes.
